The Italian government’s Golden Power has introduced layers of complexity and uncertainty into UniCredit‘s attempt to acquire Banco BPM, thereby amplifying the role of key stakeholders like Crédit Agricole.
Holding a 19.8 percent stake in Banco BPM, Crédit Agricole possesses considerable leverage in shaping the outcome of this strategic move.
UniCredit, meanwhile, has adjusted its offer for Banco BPM to reflect recent developments: the proposed exchange ratio, initially set at 0.175 of UniCredit’s shares for each Banco BPM share, has been revised down to 0.166 shares following Banco BPM’s dividend payouts.
Additionally, UniCredit must consider la Banque Verte’s existing influence, as the French banking group’s subsidiary Amundi continues to distribute savings products to UniCredit clients under an agreement valid through 2027. (Sergio Scialabba)
