Mexican Gov. Refuses WHO’s Statement of H5N2 Caused Death

The Mexican government has denied that a man died of bird flu in the country, as stated by the World Health Organization (Who), which claimed it was the first human fatality in the world caused by the AH5N2 virus.

The Mexican health ministry stated that 59-year-old man cited by the Who died on April 24 as a result of chronic conditions, not because of the virus. He had chronic kidney disease, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension.

The Mexican health ministry emphasized that none of the patient’s close contacts near his residence or at the hospital where he died have tested positive for the virus.

H5N2, H5N1, and H1N1 are all subtypes of the influenza A virus, but they have different characteristics and pose different levels of risk to human health.

This new H1N1 virus was a combination of influenza viruses that infect pigs, birds, and humans. The symptoms of H1N1 are similar to those of seasonal flu. Each of these subtypes includes many different strains of influenza virus. Not all strains infect people.
