Horses Play a Role in the Fight Against West Nile Virus

The current situation is prompting many experts to intensify research into vaccines against the West Nile virus, although this is not an entirely new development.

Currently, no vaccines are available for human use, but some are used in horses, which serve as sentinel hosts.

Experimental vaccines have been in development for years, primarily in the United States and Israel.

Italy and the Usa have chosen not to adopt the WHO amendments to the International Health Regulations.

This strengthens the perception that they intend to maintain autonomy in managing non-pandemic diseases such as West Nile. (Redazione)
