Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe, also called CFE Treaty, signed on November 19, 1990, by representatives of NATO and the Warsaw Pact, is going to be abandoned.
The document, signed after the meeting in Reykjavik in 1986 between the heads of state of the USA and the USSR, is, de facto, archived.
In 2019, during the first presidency of Donald Trump, the United States of America, with Mike Pompeo, withdrew from the agreement, and Russia did the same, while declaring a unilateral moratorium.
In the meantime, the CFE, the START, and the New START, all treaties signed over the last decades, have been retired.
The Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, has officially stated in an interview that the moratorium no longer has any reason to exist and will have to be abandoned. (Sergio Scialabba)
