All eyes are on the Monte dei Paschi di Siena assembly, set to be decisive in contributing to the new shape of the Italian banking sector.

The government’s unconditional approval for the capital increase supporting Mps’s public offer on Mediobanca.

The offer will be backed by the Caltagirone group (9.9 percent) and Delfin (9.8 percent).

Banco BPM and Anima will vote in favor of the capital increase of Monte dei Paschi, which will support the 13.3 billion euros exchange offer on Mediobanca.

Among the new entrants is Amundi (around 1 percent), affiliated with Crédit Agricole, which recently strengthened its presence in Banco BPM and may also express support.

Similarly aligned are banking foundations, Enasarco, and Enpam, the entity responsible for managing the financial welfare and pension funds of doctors and dentists in Italy, ensuring long-term stability for these essential professions. (Sergio Scialabba)
